Computer Science : Electricity
What computer science has to do with Electricity? yes, it is as simple as you thought, computers run on electricity.
This will help you later understand how electricity is stored and transformed into bits and Clocks!
Before digging deep into the definitions, let’s make a convention over the State 0 in physics.
State 0 as I call it, physics might explain some phenomenon but it doesn’t explain the root causes of things.
For example, if we want to explain why things drop down. Some will say it is because of gravity. but the real answer is that’s nature, gravity is just modelization.
Anyway, you are free to think that the root of things is coming from a root formula for everything.
Let’s come back to the topic.
what is electricity? it is nothing more than a flow of electrons.
what are electrons? alongside protons and neutrons are particles that exist inside an atom. Electrons are negative charges. Protons are positive charges. Neutrons are neutral charges.
What is an atom? An atom is a particle of matter that uniquely defines a chemical element. an atom has a 0 sum of charges between ( electrons and protons and neutrons).
There is a predefined list of basic atoms in nature (there are composed ones). Each atom has a specific number of electrons and protons.
Electrons are moving in orbits on top of the protons with different levels.
There is an interaction between negative changes and positive charges. (this is our State 0).
Atoms themselves don’t have interactions with each other. but there are some atoms that have excess or deficiency in the number of electrons which makes them positively or negatively charged.
Positively charged atoms tend to interact with negatively charged atoms which causes electrons to move to fill the gap.
Some charged atoms have better chemistry than others based on the number of electrons, the number of protons, and the orbits.
from where charged atoms come? they do exist in nature. nature started from a reaction that uses charged particles ( State 0)
how batteries are made? simply a battery is two separated groups of atoms that are charged positively and negatively. when we link the two parts of the chemical reaction starts. thus the electricity gets induced.
Some reactions are more suited for the composition of a battery than others based on the strength of the flow of electrons and the availability of atoms.
The electricity coming from batteries is called Direct current because it provides a constant one-directional flow of electrons.
On the other hand, the electric power that we use in our homes is called Alternative Current.
because it provides a flow of electrons that alternate from positive and negative.
The creation of AC power is a different story, it is called magnetic induction.
What is a magnetic field? we mentioned earlier that positive charges and negative charges attract each other. That interaction can be propagated in space. and that phenomenon is called a magnetic field. (State 0).
The magnets that we use are metals within them electrons move in a certain way to create a significant harmonic magnetic field.
Magnetic fields can be used to move electrons in copper. You will usually see magnets with coils of copper to induce electricity.
Coils are created in that form to make full use of the magnetic field.
In conclusion, AC power is created by transforming the mechanical force coming from engines into electricity by moving the magnetic metal inside a coil of copper.
